About Jacqueline Redmer
Jacqueline Redmer MD, MPH works as a physician practicing geriatrics and palliative care in the Driftless Region of Southwest Wisconsin. She is also the mother of three school-aged girls. She started writing poetry during the Covid pandemic to steady herself during the brief pauses of a busy life. Her writing has been published in the Examined Life Journal, The Intima Journal, Bramble, Pulse, Wisconsin Poets Calendar and Kevin MD Blog. Her first poetry collection, Dissociative Effect, will be published through Shanti Arts Press in fall of 2025. She completed the Columbia University Narrative Medicine CPA program and has pursued creative writing courses through Stanford University Continuing Studies Program. She enjoys reading and writing in her she-shed or the backyard sauna. She also enjoys outdoor recreation including canoeing, camping and skiing as well as spending time with her husband and daughters.
Education & Training
Jacqueline Redmer, MD, MPH, was born and raised in Wisconsin. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a degree in botany and zoology she served as a public health Peace Corps Volunteer in Kazakhstan. She returned from the Peace Corps with renewed interest in social justice and community health and completed her medical (MD) and public health degrees (MPH) through the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health prior to joining the UW Department of Family Medicine Residency Program.
During medical school and residency she spent time working in underserved communities in the United States and abroad including rural Guatemala, Lesotho and the Menominee reservation in Wisconsin. After residency she completed an integrative medicine fellowship also through the UW Department of Family Medicine. She practiced rural family medicine for 10 years before making the transition to palliative care and geriatrics.
